Seventh Grade World Geography

Unit 1: The Americas
The students will become familiar with the major landforms of Central and South America. There will be case studies of the United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and Peru. We will study the physical and political geography, people, economy, history and political systems of each region.
Unit 2: Europe
This unit is a study of contemporary Europe. Regions of Europe will be studied in the areas of economics, political systems, people, and physical geography. There will be case studies of the United Kingdom, Germany, and Ireland.
There will be a mid-year benchmark on units 1 and 2 in January.
Unit 3: Sub-Saharan Africa
During this unit, concentration will be placed on Africa south of the Sahara Desert. Students will study the effects that geography had on the development of the Early African Kingdoms. We will study the continuing legacy of colonial rule, tribal organizations, and contemporary issues. There will be case studies of Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa.
Unit 4: Asia
The study of contemporary Asia will concentrate on the development of Asia since World War II. Special focus will be placed on case studies of China, Japan, the Koreas and Indonesia.
Unit 5: Financial Literacy
Students will develop proficient levels of financial literacy and apply the concepts to make informed, responsible decisions. Main areas of focus include: the economic way of thinking, earning income, saving, spending and using credit, and money management.
The final benchmark will be given on units 3, 4 and 5 in June.
